What is painless birth?

A painless birth, for me, is a totally natural birth where you don’t feel any pain. And I had 3. Amazing ones.

Where I did not feel any pain in the labor stage, nor in the expulsion stage, or after. It’s a birth that is beautiful for me and my baby. Where my hormones work together, signalling each other, to complete a natural, easy flowing birth process.

Where I get to rest and relax, either semi-asleep, where I fully deepen in the miraculous process between realms. When I fully trust your body that it automatically knows how to perform this on its own.

In a place where I can feel like at home, safe, with people that have the same level of trust I have in my own body, that want what is truly best for me and my baby, and not have any fears related to their own beliefs about birth (I am referring to family) or just want to automatically do their job so they can finish their work day faster (medical personnel).

Where I can take any position I feel like to, and move or be in my own world as much as I feel like to, that I have my baby in my arms and have our moments together, without any interference or hurry for measurements or vaccinations.

Where I can decide what I consider good for me and my baby, no matter of my beliefs and own reality. Where we can respect the differences between beliefs and unique lives. Where the power of free will is not questioned.

Pain is fear. Pain is adrenaline which makes you escape. When you feel pain, you either expected pain in birth, or you don’t feel safe.  Either the place is unfamiliar, either the people. So, fear will tell your body to stop the birthing process and look for a safe place. As you can’t do that, because you are already at the hospital, they will try to medicate you. But it does not work, because you still don’t feel safe to be relaxed, so that the process of birth can resume. So you can get to an emergency cesarian and you didn’t even understand why.
It’s that simple… you did not feel safe. Your baby receives the signal that it is not a safe place to appear into this world, so it cooperates with your energy and hormones. You are the same body.

In my case, so I wound’t put myself in that position, I did these things:

I visited the birthing room a month before my due date,
I met my doctor and midwife (she was not there when it was the moment, but he was),
I visualised my birth in that room so that it becomes more and more familiar,
I visualised how I keep my relaxed state even if strangers would appear into the scene,
I listened every night to positive pregnancy and birth affirmations to change my beliefs about birth,
I worked with my tensions and released them, so I could maintain a relaxed body throughout pregnancy.
